"When you look in the mirror, what do you see?"
Full Name: Blake Styx Cross
Codename: Phantom
Date of Birth: 2003
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Character Faction: Xavier's student
"Do you defend someone 'cuz 'they look like me'?"
Physical Appearance: Blake stands about average height at 5' 9". His muscles are toned but not bulging from his training and exercise. His short, black hair compliments his lightning blue eyes. The slender teen's teeth are bright white, but he doesn't show them when he smiles. His near flawless complexion is completed with his slightly tanned skin. While he doesn't like going out in public very often, when he does, the boy usually wears a white t-shirt, black slacks, and a necklace with an emblem shaped like a snake wrapped around a cross. However, when he is in his combat uniform, he wears a black stealth suit that has a little extra covering going across his chest, giving the shape of an "X". When his face mask is up, the only thing that can be seen is his eyes.
Personality: Cross isn't a man of many words. While he will hold a conversation, he doesn't like talking very much. While he is knowledgeable, when it comes to talking to girls, it's not the easiest thing in the world for him. Blake would much rather hide in his room and meditate then be out in public. When he is out on the town, despite constantly scanning his surroundings, Phantom will try to avoid eye contact. Usually, during his down time, the boy will train, meditate, or sharpen his weapons.
Phantom doesn't mind working in teams, but he will often go off and do his own thing if he sees an opportunity, usually without informing others of it. However, he will not leave a teammate behind. Blake doesn't mind helping others with tasks, and he is even willing to train others in what he knows so that he can help others become the best that they can.
Personal History: Blake was born in California. His father trained him in martial arts since the day he could pick up a stick. Mr. Cross believed that a man disciplined both body and mind creates the perfect man. The man taught his successor in multiple forms of combat, including Kendo, Muay Thai, Ninjustu, and Kajukenbo, focusing mostly in weaponry skills. He studied both close combat and ranged attacks. Blake was even taught how to forge a blade and sharpen it to pristine condition. Spending hours at a time training, his body eventually grew strong and his endurance was well beyond that of most people. If he failed a training session, the boy would be physically punished, sometimes including a severe beating. His mother, while she didn't train him physically, she helped focus his mind and keep his spirits up, especially on relatively hard days. Mrs. Cross got terribly ill one day and was put into the hospital.
Being home-schooled, and kept out of public most of the time, he never really developed decent social skills. But, tired of being cooped up all the time, shortly after his twelfth birthday, the teen began sneaking out of the house at night. He would do parkour, but wound up a couple of times being dragged home in hand-cuffs. Blake would occasionally go visit his mother in the hospital. She would tell him about how his father has always looked out for her, and while, his methods are a bit harsh, Mr. Cross wishes only the best for his son. Not long afterwards, he made his first real friend, Mike Keldra. The two would run together, competing with each other to always get better. One day, while free-running, Blake tried launching off of a loose piece of roofing. He lost his footing and was about to do a face plant into the wall of the next building. But, instead of hitting it, the boy phased through the wall, and landed on the bed on the other side, in an abandoned apartment.
The boy managed to sneak back inside before his father realized, but when he was about to go greet his master, he saw two figures standing in the doorway talking to Mr. Cross. Blake could hear the conversation, word for word. The figures were talking about a school for gifted children, but his father denied it, fearing that they are just trying to turn Blake into a weapon.
At the age of sixteen, Blake's mother was hospitalized from cancer. It was spreading too rapidly and they caught it too late. Cross was at his mother's side when she died. Her last words to him were "Never forget who you are, and be the best that you can be." Her death brought both Blake and his father into a deep depression. Mr. Cross stopped punishing his son, letting him do whatever he wanted. Blake focused on his abilities, and eventually learned to have some control over them.
When he was running one night to vent some of his frustration, the boy ran across a group of thugs attacking a woman. Practically dropping on top of them, the ninja fought them off with ease. But when one of them swung a baseball bat at him, Blake phased through it. The confused thug took off, never getting a good look at his attacker. The ninja continued to patrol the streets at night, occasionally fighting off a group of thugs. Because of his skills enabling him to drop onto them practically undetected and phase through their attacks, they gave him the nickname "Phantom."
One day, his father finally mentioned the school for mutants, and explained to Blake that they came looking for him, but Mr. Cross refused. The boy, wanting to become the best that he can, decided to join the school. The day that he left home, his father gave him a present. Inside the box was a sword made out of carbon-fiber threaded titanium. The black sword was lightweight and extremely durable. That day was the last day Blake saw or heard from his father.
"It's not what you have, but what you do with it, that makes the man you are."
Superhuman Powers: Intangibility| Phantom has the ability to turn intangible and phase through objects. however, if he becomes too exhausted or is severely hurt, doing so becomes nearly impossible for him.
Enhanced Senses| Blake's hearing and eyesight are beyond that of a normal human's. He can see in very poor lighting conditions relatively well and can hear people whispering 1 1/2 times farther away than most people his age. But, extremely bright light or loud sounds can disorient that particular sense more than others
Enhanced reflexes| Blake is able to react fast enough to block a bullet with his sword and dodge most unexpected attacks
Skills: Swordmanship| Being trained in the way of the blade, Blake is able to fend off several attackers at once. While he isn't the greatest swordsman in the world, he can hold his own in an unfair fight.
Marksmanship| While his aim benefits from his enhanced senses, enabling him to use multiple kinds of ranged weapons, he prefers to use shurikens and throwing darts. He is able to hit the center of a target from over 100 feet away.
Martial arts| Blake is trained in several different forms of hand-to-hand combat, and is able to fight off and disarm multiple attackers at once, however, he still prefers to fight with a weapon.
Physical conditioning| Thanks to his training, Blake is able to lift 200 pounds over his head.
Parkour| After spending several years, and thanks to some of his training, Blake is a renown free-runner.
Blacksmithing| His father taught him how to build his weapons and keep them sharpened. Despite his equipment usually being made for him, the teen will occasionally build his own, just to prevent his skills from becoming rusty.
Equipment: Longsword| Blake's go-to weapon, the blade is made of carbon-fiber threaded titanium, making it capable of cutting through steel like a hot-knife through butter. The material makes it light weight and extremely durable.
Throwing knives| Phantom carries up to 20 of them at a time, they are razor sharp and perfectly balanced, enabling them to be thrown long distances with amazing accuracy.
Rope Darts| A modified version of his throwing knives, these blades have a carbon-fiber threaded titanium rope attached to them, allowing them to be used for a variety of purposes. He will typically carry five of them at a time.
