Due to the nature of The New Mutants Team, there are a large number of students who number among members of the team. As a result, the main body of the team has been divided into multiple squads, which each corresponding to the powers and skills that its members possess. Dividing into squads of five to eight, standard rosters among the heroic community, these squads are designed for both training and missions. Of course, members of any squad may petition for multiple membership, but only into squadrons which they would be suitable. So far the most dense individual membership in New Mutant team history has been 3 squads. Multiple squads may have similar motifs in the case of numerous students with a type of power.
Paladins - The quintessential New Mutants squad, sent on the most diverse set of away-missions, and representing what the next generation of X-men are to be. Making many PR appearances and the like, the Paladins are the most open with both their powers and identities, considered by most to be an elite-team.

Rangers and Rogues - Recon and Intel are what Rangers and Rogues are good at. They also go on urban retrieval, an area which some of The Pack aren't as adept at. Unlike the rest of the teams, membership into this one is not necesarilly power-based, but training-based. That is not to say certain powers don't assist in this team's line of work, but even someone with Collosus's power could gain membership if given the correct skills.
