"When you look in the mirror, what do you see?"
Full Name: Jamie Max Storm
Codename: Inferno
Date of Birth: June 1st, 2001
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Character Faction: Future Foundation
"Do you defend someone 'cuz 'they look like me'?"
Physical Appearance: Jamie is a short man with a muscular build, the practical opposite of Johnny and Torus. His dark hair and eyes are also a departure from the typical traits of his family, worn long as it curls in different places. The locks will either be pulled back into a pony tail, with only a few stray strands protruding from the tie, or otherwise allowed to fall freely, often framing his face. After flight it has been known to have sort of windswept look, as would be natural. A permanent beard of scruff seems to form around his jaw and cheeks, though this is more of a routine labour in front of a mirror than actual nature. Recently, Jamie has been known to grow a rather shallow moustache.
On each shoulder is a small pyre, licking the air on each side of his head, though leaving no smoke.
Most days Jamie is dressed down in his scrubs for daily rounds at med school, though when dressing casually he features a lot of different jackets, some leather, jean, or other materials, with button-up shirts and jeans. All of these are made from unstable molecules, so that the mantle of flames that rest on his shoulders don't ruin what he wears. As Inferno, Storm wears his suit, as is normal but this time it doesn't hide underneath other articles. The typical Foundation colour scheme is black and white, to which Storm will often mentally designate a range of patterns, though when making solo efforts, he changes it to red and black.
Personality:
Jamie is a friendly and bright young man, who often spends a lot of time working at the hospital, so as to keep an edge in his studies. However, the hero has also been known to become absent from rounds for extended periods thanks to sabbaticals that have something to do with The Foundation. While this does not account against most of his personal life because he procures privileges to do this through the Heroic Absence Act, but it makes him seems quite unreliable much of the time.
Not as outgoing or thrill-seeking as his father, Storm still feels a certain commitment to better the world with his gifts, originally resulting in him becoming a doctor, then later becoming a hero so as to make use of his curse, rather than feel as if he was simply suffering through life. Of course, he doesn't feel that the powers he inherited were a gift, seeing as it gave him a medical condition that's difficult, if not impossible without the resources which he can access, to cope with. But thanks to his family, not only his direct relations but all members of The Fantastic Family, he's been able come to grips with the hand life has dealt, and values them above all else for it. More than a bit sarcastic, Storm often mocks others with his biting wit, and frequently brushes off authority.
Personal History:
Jamie grew up as a part of a very large family, The Fantastic Family. When he was born, he was already met with two cousins, Franklin and Valeria, as well as an early-life playmate in Jacob Grimm. The quartet would frequent Reed's lab inside of The Baxter Building, and have many adventures that were caused by their antics until they began "growing out" of it. Of course, not only was The Fantastic Family strictly limited to the core 4's relatives, but extended to anyone who had been a member at some point, including Spider-Man, She-Hulk, Black Panther and Storm, Nova, and a number of others.
Storm never met his mother, and stopped really caring to ask questions about her when Johnny married Lyja, and Torus came along. Together, they lived haply in The Baxter Building, the old tower serving as more of a living quarter than actual base following the Fantastic Four being retired as a team. Of course, The Future Foundation would be started by Reed not much longer, and it would also begin to serve as a hub for anyone involved in the organization. Jamie enjoyed the constant traffic of people, however, and learned a great amount just by occasionally stopping a member of The Foundation, to engage them in some brief questioning about what their work was. He largely had a happy life, until one fateful day, everything would change.
Up until an August afternoon of his fourteenth year, Jamie had figured himself a normal human, and had come to peace with that, considering that his brother and stepmother were both aliens, and it seemed that nearly everyone he was close to had some sort of fantastical ability or skill, excepting Valeria who was just very smart. So Storm committed himself to studying, learning music, and just generally trying to lead a typical life, and hoping that his brain power would be enough to someday help The Foundation. While doing his math homework, one day, everything suddenly began to feel cold, thinking he may have just been coming down with some sort of chill, Jamie went to retrieve a blanket, but as he grasped the piece of cloth it suddenly set aflame. This panicked the boy, as suddenly his entire body was burning as well. Not realizing that it wasn't harming him, Storm had a brief panic attack, and nearly burned down the entire Baxter Building before passing out from a side-affect of said hysteria.
Of course, when he woke up, the boy was in the infirmary, the fire had been put out by his father and Uzoma Monroe not long after it had started. Jamie had been put under for several days, and was now wearing an unstable molecule suit. It was later explained that his body passively burned, unlike Johnny's which could be controlled, due to a quirk in the mutation which caused his powers. Seeming that his body's natural state was to be in plasma when sufficient fuel was available, Reed and Valeria designed a suit which would prevent oxygen particles from touching most of his body, and only entering through his nostrils and mouth. Even the air he harvested from breathing, though, continued to be sufficient to cause small instances of burning on each shoulder.
Following this, Jamie fell into a depression. While objectively, he knew he should have felt happy about unveiling his powers, the fact that they were so naturally destructive, to the point that he was forced to live as a somewhat subtle "bubble-boy". Eventually he would receive counselling, and learn skills with which to cope, and resumed his life as normal. Continuing to go to "school", which was really just private tutors who were brought in or lived in The Baxter Building, Jamie received a diploma for highschool completion at 16, and went on to college then medical school. Every day, he and his dad worked on the powers, trying to get better control over them, and even though Jamie has gotten a very strong handle on these abilities, the young man is still unable to keep them in total check without the barrier-suit.
After turning 18, Storm was officially permitted to join The Foundation, though as an adventurer rather than a researcher, as he currently lacks the education to participate in any experiments, but is able to go on assignments and missions, as well as fight threats in The Foundation's name.
"It's not what you have, but what you do with it, that makes the man you are."
Superhuman Powers:
Plasma Form - Inferno's body will consumes chemical energy naturally, from his metabolism and surrounding atmosphere, to turn his body into a state of continuous combusting plasma. This state makes his bodily matter similar to that which exists in the area surrounding a star, burning at approximately 875 degrees Fahrenheit at its base state surrounding him immediately, having a bright red colouration. This aura of flame that is brought from the sheer temperature of his body, which measures anywhere between 3600 to 5500 degrees in the plasma proper, combusts the air up to a half-foot away from himself. While this base form of Jamie's generation does little in the way of consuming energy, bringing it to higher levels brings a more significant amount of energy when scaled. Without burning at higher then natural, Jamie can maintain his flaming form for up to 12 hours. No longer in a technically solid state, Jamie is not affected by things which are able to withstand his heat, as they will pass through him unless specially designed not to do so. Due to the nature of how Storm's combustion processes, Inferno has yet to properly deduce how to reduce the flames to a complete absence, at best focusing it into his elbow and remaining arm. He requires technology in order to remain in his born state for any amount of time, excepting exhaustion or an absence of proper fuel.
Flame Manipulation - Jamie is able to control fire from any source through his mental will, though he states that fire which is sourced from himself is more "pliable" and thus easier to control and move. Sculpting the flames with his hands, Inferno is able to create a number of shapes, though not complex, such as pillars and streams of flame, orbs, and letters when given a large enough canvas. In order to maintain such designs, Storm must maintain focus, subconsciously feeding these flames energy. Unless he continues to feed these shapes, they die out after roughly 2 minutes. The natural temperature of his shapes are 3000 degrees Fahrenheit, though with devoted focus he can naturally increase the temperatures to as high as 5000 degrees. His control in general is seen to be not enough to have complete control over his flame, hence the lack of ability to deactivate his plasma form on command. When encountering open flame, Jamie can also "absorb" it for the chemical energy content so as to use it later.
====High-Output Emission - Storm has a higher "natural point" for his temperature, but ultimately has the same potential as his father. At this point, Jamie is also able to release all his fire at once, his plasma consuming all his energy and reaching a temperature that is unable to be measured (largely due to the fact that matter cannot survive the temperatures he's reached, his body becoming an intense blue as the fires of Inferno's body emanate off of him. The flames themselves measure at about 1,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit, and reach as far as 900 feet. He may only maintain this release for a maximum of 5 seconds, after which his energy is exhausted, and the only amounts left are what is sufficient to keep him alive. This safety may be bypassed, but only under extreme stress, while also risking Storm's life.
Flight - Due to the hydrogen content in plasma, Inferno's internal air gives him sufficient aerial buoyancy to float several feet into the air. Through the stimulation of his flame generation, Jamie can use his body like an omni-directional thruster to control how he moves in the air, and even use it to accelerate to extremely high speeds. By forming a jet with his lower-half, Storm can fly at 140 miles per hour in the air, but can push this to 800 miles per hour in a more taxing feat. Jamie still suffers jet-lag, and has no compensating reflexes while in flight, however, and can still become sick and blindsided as normal. After about 2 hours of flight at below 200 miles per hour, Jamie begins to tire, but it only takes 5 minutes of flight at his maximum speed to become exhausted.
Thermokinesis - Jamie is able to control heat, by either lessening or increasing it. While on the Earth's surface, he can lower the temperature within a 5-foot by 5-foot block to about 30 degrees, or raise to to 300 degrees. Anywhere within about 50 feet of himself he can do this.
Flame and Heat Immunity - Any source of heat or fire has not ability to injure Storm, unless it exceeds the maximum output of his own ability to generate fire.
Skills:
Conditioning: Inferno works out routinely, in moderate exercise, allowing him to have an above average physique when compared to others of his height and age.
Music: Jamie is a talented musician, versed in most "rock" instruments, including the guitar, electric and bass, drums, and keyboard. He isn't a very gifted singer, however.
Intelligence: Jamie is naturally keen and intelligent, quickly learning and mastering concepts that are presented to him.
-Medical Student: Storm is currently a student of medical science and to be a physician, currently studying at Harvard Medical.
Equipment:
Unstable Molecule Suit: A skin-tight costume, made from unstable molecules, that allows it to sustain the heat, and even shift into a similar state of plasma that Storm transforms into. It cannot withstand temperatures beyond 7500 degrees, however, and will begin to deteriorate after being exposed to this level of heat, and will continue to as long as it remains exposed. This suit has a mechanism built in that allows it to generate a skin-level barrier around Jamie's entire dermis, including his eyes, that prevents the oxygen within the atmosphere from meeting his body. Due to this, the only air able to enter Storm's system come through mouth and nose. However, the level of air this provides is still sufficient to cause a permanent mantle of flame to lick from the tops of his shoulders. This barrier can be activated and deactivated via the module in the suit's chest.
Communication Module: Housed in the chest of his molecule suit, this machine interfaces with Storm's body and relays his vitals to a computer at the Foundation plaza. This same relay can also be used to communicate with the computer, and other users of the suit.
